Welig Tieren (Pullulate) Public library, Hazerswoude Rijndijk.
Year: 2023

Welig Tieren (Pullulate) is created for the library of Hazerswoude Rijndijk (Bibliotheek Rijn en Venen) the Netherlands as an inclusive community art project.

The process for this four works started with collecting discarded clothes from the municipality of Hazersoude Rijndijk. Then inhabitants participated in various workshops during the creating process. Kids from an after school care selected all clothes by color. Then a handy group of women came to cut and sew the garments into long strips. These strips were used in active sessions with the participation of several inhabitants of the village to twist, turn and braid fabulous ropes that were al integrated in the works. People who visit the library can find their garment or their selfmade rope somewhere in the art pieces. The four pieces refer to the sprouing of plants in unexpected places as seen on pavements and in the cracks of buildings. These works are part of the bigger project Onderlinge Verbondenheid (Interconnectedness) that resulted in three art projects in 3 locations of Bibliotheek Rijn en Venen. Therefor the four “sprouted” works of art here have a strong connection with the works in the library of Boskoop and Alphen aan den Rijn. The making of “Krioelende Klimmer”

This community art project was made with the help of many local people, who came to select, cut and sew, and twist and turn beautiful ropes for this art project. The library is open for the public, so this installation is to see for anyone.
