Krioelende Klimmer (Crawling Climber) Public library, Boskoop Year: 2022

Krioelende Klmmer (Crawling Climber) is created for the library of Boskoop, (Bibliotheek Rijn en Venen) the Netherlands as an inclusive community art project.

The process for this installation started with collecting discarded clothes from the municipality of Boskoop. Then inhabitants participated in various workshops during the creating process. Children from an elementary school selected all clothes by color. Meanwhile discusssing personal colorpreferences and gendercodes in color choice for their garments. Then small groups of women came to cut and sew the garments into long strips. These strips were used in active sessions with the participation of immigrants, elderly people and youngsters to twist, turn and braid fabulous ropes that were al integrated in the installation. People who visit the library can find their garment or their selfmade rope somewhere dangling from the ceiling. Because of the monument status of the building the ropes are crawling and creeping through spaces in between the supporting beams of the ceiling. here and there erupting over pillars where there is space, and therefor not doing any damage to the building. The installation refers to the plant and tree nurseries that are the core of the local economy for hundreds of years in Boskoop.
