The sea is a reoccurring theme in Femke's work, because of a deep love and respect for it. This piece reflects her memories, from early childhood on, of floating in the sea, head under water. Above the light, the world I know, underneath me the deep immense neverending blue. Both tempting, what is there in that deep blue? How far does it go? Knowing to have to return to the light to breathe and get out, the deep dark is so mysteriously attractive, representing the unknown world that forms the biggest part of the planet.
